Guilty J is a producer / songwriter from the UK. Having worked with artists such as Rain, Big Lou, Wordsmith, City Haze and Cambatta; J is making some major moves on the underground scene. His work has been featured on MTV, HipHopDX.com, HipHopGame.com, Hip Hop Weekly magazine, Foundation magazine, Hip Hop Mogul magazine, Skope magazine and many more.
J was first exposed to hip hop at 9 years old. He was fascinated by the intricate storytelling and grimey beats, and was instantly hooked. He spent the next couple of years constantly listening to hip hop, and looking for new artists all the time. It was then that he decided he wanted to be more than just a consumer.
At 13 J was introduced to beat making by his sister's boyfriend who was a local DJ. He gave J some software to start making beats and J was immediately addicted. He showed flare when in front of that keyboard, and although he'd never had any professional training in music; it was obvious he had a great ear and a natural talent.
Over the years J got more and more involved in music, when he felt his beats were good enough he started researching how he could not only profit from his music, but how he could start building his career. In 2006, at age 16, he started his own production company, hoping to house and develop young and talented urban artists in the UK. This is when J discovered his innate business sense, co-ordinating and producing full length projects with fellow artists and conducting business with people, sometimes twice his age. Some may have thought it strange to see a 16 year old leading a studio session and directing adults, but this was just another day in the office for Guilty J.
After hitting a few bumps in the road, J decided to close that chapter of his life and shut the company down in late 2007.
He describes this as "the best decision I've ever made". With a fresh start in the industry, it was finally time to focus on his own music and his own career. September 2007, the grind began.
With a new sound, a new goal and a new game plan; J set about turning his dream into reality. This was the moment he decided to dedicate his life to music. Ever since then it's been nothing but hard work and sleepless nights for this brimming superstar, and the results are starting to show. J has now worked with many well known artists and is starting to build a name for himself in the industry.
